Western Digital Elements SE 2.5" 1 Tb owners (such as myself) have been plagued, from the beginning, by Western Digital's poor decision to encode the external hard drive's spin-down time to almost near instant. Which means, many users may notice problems with any sort of multimedia activies that are running off of their external drive. Previously, I posted a software "fix" for users running this drive under a Windows environment (see here for the instructions). This method, however, leaves much to be desired. Fortunately, Elements SE users can now rejoice, because in just a few days time, Western Digital will be releasing a utility that permanently fixes the spin-down time encoded within the drive.
