might be just hawk exaggerating things he does invite EVERYBODY who joins the server that he has never met before to join his city so of course something like that will happen especially with people you have never met before

Im really not exaggerating anything here, and how that has a relation to the people I invite to NN I have no clue. Sorry if I like playing SMP with other people rather than going into the wilderness.. And even if I invite them, even if they pass the application I search for them on other sites, 'McBans' for example. And this one probably isn't my fault, it looks like they started from spawn and gradually found their way to NN.

I just won't help new people then. Just send them off to openville.. Sorted then. Hmm, however it may seem that it could have been Brettchats, if he's been on. Also, some walls for the nether wart farm I saw removed.

Read my list, it certainly doesn't seem like its exaggerating, also, some of it may be just people redecorating their homes. I closed all the doors btw smile

Rollback= All my stuffs now in mosscow, I hope we haven't just reset it so the griever can do it all again.

Here's the deal on the server.

It is going to be down until later tonight (I have class for most of the day).

It will need to be rolled back to the 9th. This will provide a "fresh", pre-grief start.

Secondly, I am not able to ban anyone (at the moment). There is not enough evidence.

Finally, I will be switching the server to Bukkit. We need to have a reliable way of rolling back the server and catching griefers. Everything, however, will remain vanilla.

With this change, there should be no issue of quickly determining and solving grief and stealing issues (for both Guzzie and myself).

well guess that means me heero and krystal lose our train station

if its missing items then it shouldnt be rolled back

if its just minor repairs then people can just fix it

Have been unable to play due to starting school again. Will still play over weekends. In other words, rollback don't hurt me, the knowledge of a greifer does.
Seems pretty bad.

What version of bukkit are you using? If the wrap bug exists, given that they stole gunpowder, I would suggest a temp ban on TNT for safety until bukkit is patched. The wrap bug is too good... big_smile

Is this like serverside mods only or something? I don't have much time for Minecraft atm anyways, but um... damn.

Bukkit is a server wrapper that includes anti-griefing features. It makes it easier to port in new mods, and most mutiplayer mods are written for bukkit. (Including all the good anti-greif mods)
Essentially, What SDM plans to do (Correct me if I am wrong) is follow the path I suggested, and increase the functionality of the server for times when a griefer hits without altering normal gameplay in any form. Bukkit is the easiest way to do this.

Suggestion: Use MCEdit to look at every player's inventory, look for players in suspicious spots, (ex. Top of kaya's castle, small hidden house, etc.) and look for suspicious chests (Copy world, replace all non-chest blocks with air, mark coords of chests with damaging loot, go back to normal world, mark chest, track history of chest)

perhaps we shouldn't tell people about where we are going next and where things are placed unless we truely trust that person. that might narrow the people down. Surely everyone has something else you can use to communicate with such as Ventrillo. I don't believe it's fair to the rest of us when certain measures were not taken to prevent this. Now none of us are able to play.

Server is back online. Please inform me of any issues.

We now have a reliable way of catching griefers. I have sent Guzzie an explanation of using the tool, so he will be able to help.

I totally agree. Having the server down for a day sucks worse than being griefed, for the most part and it affects everyone. Not to mention anyone who built anything that they'll loose because of the rollback will probably be worse off than the perons that was griefed.

Nah, but really how far back did the rollback go? I now only have 3 diamond, down from 40 ish, have none of my enchanted weapons, silk touch, loot & fortune. at least 1/4 my castle is gone now. The updates I made to the spawner and the rail I put in that leads there... all gone. Ouch! I've been griefed before but nothing that sucked this bad. sad

what to do?
