I am curious as to how other people organize their inventory. I know my inventory is always organized in a specific way, and I'm sure some of you have a preferred way as well.
-In my hotbar (from left to right) I always have: sword, pick, shovel, axe, bow, cobble, random item (usually dirt but sometimes subbed for netherrack or anything else I happen to be using a lot at the time), food, and torches.
-In the top left of my inventory so it's out of the way I keep my arrows.
-I try to keep a full stack of arrows, food, and torches if possible so I top off every time I'm home.
-I try to keep enough cobble and dirt that I could use it to climb to a decent height but less than full stacks so if I happen to pick up a piece or two I don't immediately start another stack.
My organization is inspired somewhat by Paul Soares Jr.'s.
I'll attach a screenshot of my inventory currently (I just topped off everything after a journey in the nether).
Some of you may think this is weird but others may be even more picky about how their inventory is organized. I want to know what you all do. Also, feel free to discuss how you organize chests as well. Maybe mention what categories you break your chests into and things like that.
Usually, I don't spend much time organizing my hot bar, but when I do I always have my sword, pick, bow, and torches next to each other. I always carry around roughly two stacks of arrows (I know, it's a lot) and recently started to make pearls a mandatory item (at least two stacks) in my inventory. I always have at least a decent amount of food, and only a few placing blocks (usually dirt) that I use to get over steep terrain.
This is how i Organize my Inventory always and forever!
Then sword, pick, then shovel or axe if needed, if not i will put
on top of sword and pick so i have two free spaces.
Arrows on top of bow, i always try to keep a stack of them but
in this picture i only had 10...
On the other side (right side) there goes the torches then the food!
Extra food goes on top of Current food, then some ender pearls (three stacks),
waste block... and that's pretty much my organization Style!

I tend to shuffle it and adapt to whatever I have at the moment.
In general: Pick, Shovel/axe, sword, bow, blocks, stuff, stuff, food, torches.
Started that arrangement a long time ago, and never have been in enough combat to require immediate sword access. I tend to be systematic about lighting areas up.
Haven't thought about it at all since the adventure update, because I tend to convert to a building hotbar
Pick, Shovel/axe, blocks, blocks, blocks, blocks, redstone, other redstone stuff, torches
Mine is inspired my paulsoares as well.
First is always Pick, then Shovel, then Sword, Bow (with arrows directly above), then and/or axe/hoe.
Last is always torches, before that is always food, and before that, filling all remaining spaces, is the building material I am using (if I am in the nether or mining; this will include water bucket).
In inventory, I also like to keep like-blocks grouped so I can quickly tell what I have, separated by what I will be keeping and what I will be taking home to store.
In my hot bar I always have 1. Sword 2. Bow 3. Pickaxe 4. Shovel 5. Axe 6. Food 7. Torches 8. What I'm laying down or using a lot of 9. random item. Top left corner arrows and a stack of torches and a half stack of dirt.
My Inventory is some what a resemblance towards PvP/PvE as I have from left to right Sword-Bow-Pick-Axe-Spoon-Torches-Food-Building Block-Pillaring Up Block (cobble).
Then I have 1 or 2 spare swords above where the sword is, same with the pick, axe and spoon. I have 1 stack of torches, 16 logs and 64 coal, so I can make lots of torches.
Then the rest is just random junk.
This is what i take when i go mining.
first pickaxe is regular with eff, second pickaxe is silk touch.
All these old players D: this thread breaks my heart
(is it bad that I remember when this thread was made? Lol)

I'd also like to add that the 'focus' of my inventory is on the bow (that's what I usually hold when walking around).
I have my arrows in the top left, like smith.
I try to keep my inventory clutter-free, as I usually don't carry much else around except when I'm exploring/caving.
For me it's ALWAYS got to be
4-7 whatever i need at the time (building blocks, fishing pole, splash pots, water, whatever)
8 - food
9 - torch
When I die I have to get everything back in its place or I don't feel normal. I always reach for 1 for close combat, 8 to eat, 2 for creepers.. so if the organization doesn't match what i recall, i die.
