First off, Let me start out by saying that I fully realize this is a vanilla based server and website. But I am gonna post this anywho.
There is a mod-pack out there for SMP. They call it Tekkit as is a SMP version of a mod-pack called Technic.
The mod is about an industrious way to play MineCraft, and as basically all of us claim we are technical builders and redstone engineers, I think this mod pack is appropriate, and enjoyable by not only me but for everyone on the server. Here is some info and some mods included:
Industrial Craft: Make machines that run on energy and cables to supply them! Wether you use jet-packs, mining lazers, Terra Claws, or Nuclear Engineering! Industrial Craft is MineCraft, industrialized like never before!
BuilldCraft:Extending Minecraft with pipes, auto-crafting, quarries, engines and much more!
RedPower: Makes everything that redstoners wish they could do (or do more efficiently) and things they even believed were impossible! Dye and insulate your wires so that they don't intersect, Run them up walls and buildings, entire logic gates into a single block! Even wireless redstone!
Equvilent Exchange:The Equivalent Exchange mod is based around alchemy. It also grants the ability to easily condense materials into more valuable forms, up to diamonds and even beyond. Most of its recipes are based around the Philosopher's Stone, which you will need in order to access much of the new content.
Would it be possible to get a Tekkit server to run no-lag 24/7 like this one? I am gonna legitify this. We could use a server hosting and get a small one, honestly, if we all just subscribe and pay monthly the individual cost will be so little it won't matter much. If all else fails I will end up paying for it, hopefully (as I am told) if I just find a server with 10 slots or so it won't be very expensive, but I will give the admin rights to Daniel and it will be his server and I will just pay for it. I bet we will find a way to do this, but I am definitively not just asking for this and expecting you guys to pay for it and run it. I will pay for it and xSDMx can be the awesome Mod we always loved. Here is site for Tekkit, [ http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/ ] Thanks for reading and please ask any questions. I don't know how to do spoiler boxes or there would be many of them, trust me.

I was intruiged by this when I first heard about it.
Unfortunately, my current Minecraft plans place this at low priority.
1. The vanilla server. I already have builds, and I quite enjoy the current community and map as it is.
2. My adventure map. Waiting for 1.3 so I wouldn't have to worry about updates messing stuff up for a while. Then I will go all out and work on that.

Really good idea i guess, but wouldn't that require every player white-listed to install all them mods on the client for us to join the server.. but other than that, It is a good idea.

Okay, I tried moving it to Submit Content, although there is no "new topic" button... Reading the "help" forum.

There is a launcher, just download the launcher and click Tekkit and log in.

Ja. There is a tekkit launcher that downloads all the mods and keeps them updated. I used it once to downgrade my jar file.
Side note, there is the technic pack, and the tekkit pack. Technic is the SSP version, Tekkit is the SMP version.

This is a really cool idea . I will gladly join the server and finally begin playing some tekkit . I have been wanting to play it for weeks but was kindy lazy i guess. I have watched many Technic Pack lets plays and know some stuff so you could ask me about stuff . About the server. I wish i could support it but i don't have money ( i never have money ) but i will gladly contribute by researching the best server providers (if needed ) and even helping in-game.
Also i think we should install logblock plugin for obvious reasons.
Some additional things ! --->
: In the game there are items such as chunk loaders (smp ). Basically they allow to place these blocks and these blocks imitate as if a player is there and thus keeps the chunk loaded allowing for the machinery to never stop. This item will generate lag if there are a ton of them around and i think for the benefit of everyone they should not be allowed to use.
: Another item / mod that may cause problems is The Wireless Redstone Mod . The mod is self explanotary ,it allows the use of wireless redstone. This mod will allow the use of it for far distances which also may cause lag since it needs to load the chunks and stuff. In addition this mod works with frequencies . This causes problems of player activating accidentaly somebody's redstone since they dont know that this frequency is already in use. I would suggest not to install this mod/plugin on the server. (It will be much easier on the server , trust me.)
I think this is all for plugins.
Suggested Server specs :
No less than 1Gb of ram . I think it will be optimal with 2Gb and super awesome with 3GB.
A multi-core processor . I don't think we will have to worry about this one .
Good connection and location of the server. Somewhere in america or europe should be fine . ( Never choose russia .)
I have a server provider that may work . http://www.shadyshosting.com/minecraft.html
For $15 we can get 2GB with free plugin support + 24/7 support + other stuff.
They seem good reliable providers. I have a friend who bought the $15 server and he never had any
problems . ( I was admin there . The server was once called VacCraft
but now its down due to money shortage lolz)
Thanks for reading XD
Srry for any english mistakes.

Something else i forgot .
Due to tekkit containing powerful game mechanics . I think people who have been approved and whitelisted and trusted on the smp vanilla server are allowed to join the tekkit server. This will greatly contribute by stopping griefers from using tekkit's dangerous stuff (mining laser = super cool mining tool , nuclear stuff = needs to be taken care of carefully) to cause chaos on the tekkit server. Some people may disapprove and its fine that our opinions differ but tekkit is very unknown to us yet so its best to be careful first.
A couple of websites to et started with tekkit :
#1 http://thetekkit.wikia.com/wiki/The_Tekkit_Wiki
#2 http://www.tekkitwiki.co.uk/index.php?title=Main_Page
Overall i think we all would have so much more fun if this idea (tekkit server) will be done.

The way we can disable chunk loaders is just by disabling their crafting
Found it on the tekkit forums .

1. You can edit your posts.
2. Let me elaborate. I am interested. I will probably play. I just have other priorities within minecraft.
3. Strong admining. Chunk loaders, mass quarries, and stuff like nukes... Whitelist only people you find reliable, not just recent additions to this server (Maybe active for X?).
4. Read that wiki(s). Learn what everything is. For anyone interested.
5. I am pretty sure the server is one big pack. Not really easy to add additional mods or delete existing mods, but you can disable things in the config files. (AFIK)

What you mean not really easy to download ? The client version is super easy becuase there is a self updating client . The server may be a bit hard but we can always ask the host providers.
Edit : Thanks for the pro tip kura

He was just suggesting a tekkit server for this community. No need to be snappy.
I find it a nice idea. Might be hard to get enough support for the server though.
