I don't know, guys, I think flying around setting stuff on fire can be fun. Maybe if we have our own server we can have an area that we can absolutely demolish with our mad wizardry lol.

And I like the idea of mixing magic and science. Reminds me of a book by Neil Gaiman, can't remember what it is called... Anyway, I'm excited.

EE is a bit too... Quick.
Even some of the midgame items are OP. For example, one of the earlier ones is the Volcanite amulet, already which can shoot a bolt that drains oceans and generates lava. It also is equivalent to about 52 diamonds, which is a very low cost in this pack.

Here is a list of the "Power Items"
(Also, that wiki is a good resource)
They are quite useful. They are also very abusable. If we do play, we need to make sure people know what these do, and that in general people live far away from each other (Railcraft has really fast minecarts and IC has teleportation anyway), so that the big projects aren't colliding.

I finally take the time to look at this thread and I'm a bit blown away by this. I...phew. I dunno what to say. I'm all sorts of intereted in this and I have to admit the moment I read it I started looking around youtube for let's plays and whatnot about this mod pack. I've reduced myself to watching yogscast for this...still. Anyways, this is all sorts of amazing and if we do go through with this I'll back it as best I can.

Yogscast does it decently. Duncan doesn't do the Yogscastian ruin the mod stuff, you should watch his first few vids on it.

I've kind of "cooled down" over EE. Let's just take the pack as it is. Maybe minus matmos, because that mod is annoying for me. Although it is clientside). If something comes up, we can work it out then. Because I enjoy EE a lot. Just think it might be too insane in SMP.

Also, for whitelisting, as is obvious by Millenium and others, some get through. And greifing here is much easier than on the normal server.
Suggestion: Minimum playtime on this server before you are added to tekkit (Maybe two weeks? nothing too long, just enough to bore greifers).

Or maybe we could add people we know well and trust for sure, like people that you know would not grief.

Yeah Kura, I've been watching Duncan's stuff. Did a bit of exploring in it myself as well, but it's pretty daunting. Also, it seems to start me in creative or something no matter what I specify? I'd rather work for it, having that huge inventory of things I didn't understand was a bit annoying. hmm

REI's inventory isn't creative. You can't actually give yourself those blocks (I think). It lets you find out how to craft things. Hover over stuff and press R to see how to make it, or U to see what you can make with it.
You can also chain R and U. Like if you want to craft A, but it requires B, you can see how to make B.

IIRC you can turn it off with O if it bugs you, and just use U on blocks in your inventory to see what is next.

Also, REI gives a search function if you want to find out how to make, say, solar panels, you can look it up.

I find that the filter on top helps a lot too. I reccomend disabling redpower's miniblocks. Takes up a good 10 pages or something crazy like that (Small blocks like side slabs, rings, etc. that are less than a block large. Rather repetative).

I dunno Kura, it was totally letting me grab those blocks out. Was fun for a bit but then I wanted the actual experience and now I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to get started on first. There's just...sooooo much. I feel like I'm trying to learn Minecraft all over again...but times three.

Huh. It might be enabled in Single player tekkit, because people tend to use single player for a multiplayer mod just to test. If they wanted single player they would Technic.
I remember reading it is disabled in some options file. Not sure.

I just surfed around to learn about it. Still don't know much about a lot of the mods (like forestry).
You don't have to use all of it at all. I would suggest trying out just buildcraft and industrialcraft first. Those two mods are together already really powerful, have comprehensive wikis, and are easier to understand.
Alternately, you could try EE only. Also has a really good wiki, and is a very strong mod.

The most powerful playstyles I have seen are BC/IC and EE. The other mods don't really run much on their own amazingly. The other mods are more assisting for convenience when needed. (Railcraft for better minecarts, Redpower for more compact redstone and colored lights, forestry for automatic trees. Computercraft for lategame programming builds, etc.)

TL;DR: Read up on Industrialcraft, Buildcraft, and Equivalent exchange. Those are the most valuable mods, in my opinion. IC and EE have good wikis, while buildcraft is suprisingly simple once you get the hang of it, although the existing wikis aren't comprehensive.

Good advice, Kura. Found out that it is enabled in single player by default. I managed to disable it and I've been digging around a bit and slowly learning the tools of EE. Coal feels much more abundant than normal and I'm seeing much less Iron I feel. Tons of copper, which is sad really...I got a full stack of copper, only 10 iron and it's the copper that's useless to me for my EE explorations while iron actually has a use for it. Le sigh.

EE doesnt use copper, (it can transmute it though).

But finding few iron is not a problem with EE, as soon as you have your transmutation tablet (aka going to the nether to find glowstone, and have a few diamonds) everything becomes everything.

Just discovered that EMC generation with energy collectors  is four times less in SMP than in single player, thats a good thing.

Ja.
Pretty sure you can make glowstone out of gold using one of the recepies (Might have to check up on that), so nether isn't necessary.

Once you make a transmutation tablet, you can turn anything into anything else you have found. So you can turn all your copper into iron, and if you did too many, you can just turn it back.

It is nice they nerfed it. My first experiences were that it was too fast. Fully automatic matter generation shouldn't be fast.

Have you made a divining rod yet? That is probably the first thing you should do, whether or not you are using EE. Tells you the values of blocks you are facing.

Can't find the original starting guide that I used. It suggested make a medium divining rod ASAP to help speed up mining.
