Guys,
I would definetely be interested in creating a library on the server, and living there while maintaining it. I would be up to any idea of where to put it, wether it be spawn city or somewhere new like Aurum.

You guys could submit books and stuff on almost anything, while I write things as well.

I don't think I could get bored, and I really like the idea, as well as the job and title.

So basically, I call dibs.

Most towns do have libraries. Also, I'd like to request a restriction on completely obscene books. Who knows how old that kid reading the book with the worst swears imaginable is. Cmon guys, I know a lot of people on this server will abuse them.

Hawkeye, you make a valid point on one end. People would certainly swear to no end and this is the exact reason Luke would be necessary as part of a library and keeping track of the content of books.

Though, town's having their own libraries, not true, I intensely doubt they will be more practical than a central hub for books, namely accounting for the small volume of players and the unnecessary obfuscation a decentralized system would create.

I hope the best for you Luke, and my friend (Ponderosan) and I are partial to writing and will certainly submit some works.

Luke, you should definitely build an epic library. Perhaps near Aurum.

I'm concerned about people just leaving a horrific book in a chest that some random person will pick up and read. Also, nice Avengers reference there. I'm going to see that tomorrow, I hope it's good (unlike The Hulk)

Simple. The drawback in survival is also the advantage.
The books tell you who authored them. You can have a rule for your library that any "bad" submitted books will be destroyed, and repeated offense will result in a ban from the library.

Sounds like a great idea, btw. There is a derpy one in spawn town at the moment, but that place is abandoned.

A logical followup to this would be bookshelves having a dispenser-style inventory of sorts, where you can store books within them. Don't know how long before that update. Until then, you can have chests among the shelves.

First off, Aurum is new? I am pretty sure it was there long before I even got into the server. At first this idea seemed to me like any other of the library ideas, we would make a room and cram it with bookshelves making walls of text everywhere. But the more I though about it, I liked this idea. The new books really add a lot to this idea; We are a very social, and cooperative server, but we cannot always be aware of all the things going on around us. If we add this library, people can add their volumes, about there builds, ideas, and experiences. We can add a restricted area and put in there deep, dark secrets and old tales. And instead of banning the people that rob it we could hunt them down, and put them in a jail, or when we needed to we could reside in these ancient tomes. I am just spurting out ideas, and while I was typing this post, my inspiration is bursting! Another great idea that can latch on to this one is what if the library produced a newspaper, and we can copy and paste that into multiple copies, we then charge towns a montly fee for the latest news, stories, builds, posts, grieving warnings, contests, and we could have riddles, and games in there also. I could go on for hours now about all the things that are popping up in my mind, but Ima stop now. Thanks for reading, and I am very agreeing with this idea! Do this, boi!

You know, the more people talk, the exciteder I get towards the new books, from just meh to WOOHOO.

This can be an awesome opportunity. Unfortunately, I have no new ideas atm but will check back in with some tongue .

These all sound rather nice.
I was also thinking of a history section. History of servers, history of towns, history of people.
We can also do coopertive stories. Different people write different chapters.
I think I will wait a little bit to see how finalized this gets before I get too dedicated. I would be enjoying the ice so much, and start building boat roads now that those aren't as lethal.

I know what your all thinking, the first book is going to have to be about how amazing i am. I know i am amzing and very modest so i don't mind if people make books about the fantastic Haggis. :-p

seriously though i would like the idea of having news on towns and who built which buildings in some cases so that people don't look at towns and not know who built what and all that. And anyone who posts a book in a library without a name will be deleted and any dodgy books just won't be read until disposed of.

It would be cool if all of us did sort of an autobiography of what happened to you on the server. Not into extreme detail but just stories of what happened when you joined.

Also i was wondering do you think there would be book buying? if someone wrote a very good story that people wanted and if there was a decent way of copying them.

I'll write town info? It might be nice if we had a chest full of books at the spawn area to detail what towns there are and how to get there, just a thought.
