We've seriously been hit hard- there must be a group of Griefers going around together to cause mayhem.

Banned 'KarmaCreed'. Caught him red-handed, he killed Sprocketlord and started to grief his house. Most of the damage has been fixed and I'll continue to provide support until things are back to normal.

Edit: Things are back to normal.

I'm going to hold up on the whitelisting for a while. We've had too many problems with new players. I'm now paranoid that a lot of them are working together in some form of Griefer group.

Do you think a post limit would cut down on griefers? You have to complete the application, and then make 4 more posts that add to the forum, not just random spam "lol" posts. I think this would divert people from joining just for the sake of griefing, mainly because they most likely not want to put in the effort of contributing to the forums. Just my idea, not sure how feasible it is.

Not much they can add with posts. It is always introduce yourself or "Wats this?". They don't have experience, and I don't want a bunch of failed applies spamming the forums.
I thought the whitelist would be a good deterrent, but we still get leaks. I would suggest being slower but more consistant in updating the whitelists. Much easier for them if they all come in one big burst. If it is a maximum of say five a week, teams have a bit more trouble and it cuts down on "when will I get accepted?"

Pssh, I say bring it on! Maybe we should have some people hang around spawn and police the newer players (follow them around and tell them not to do stupid things), though just waiting for them to steal/grief and getting them banned is still efficient. I'd gladly do it.

Though are you sure that there is a group out there? You'd expect them to stick together, distract the OPs, do social engineering, etc.

I think a better team is a bunch of friends. Teams imply organized and logical. These seem like a bunch of friends that invited each other to all grief, and they are all joining to try and do damage.

Random image which represents what these have pretty much been, although not this bad.

I'm starting to see why anti-griefing mods are so popular.

Credits to me for finding this big_smile.

The spontaneous grief attacks will eventually go away. Anti-grief plug-ins ruin the vanilla experience, anyway.

KyanoTozer found more griefing in Sailor's Retreat this morning.  Three buildings and three ships have major damage.

I used to be temporarily insane, now I'm just stupid!
