I am definitely, unbelievably and absolutely in support of a new map. I've been mentioning this for weeks!
However, yeah, wait for 1.3 to come out, who knows what will change. Something game-breakingly big (in a good way!) might be introduced.

I think we should wait till 1.3 to reset. I dont know about the large biomes generation. Wouldnt it make the map even a larger size? People will have more difficulty to find the biome they want and i think the new large generation is for big 100 + slot servers and we are n ot that big
Large generation doesn't make the world larger. It just makes biomes larger. Even for our current world size, I am pretty sure we would have enough diversity of biomes to please everyone if we had the new generation.

I hope there will be an reset soon. But I agree with the fact that we should wait until 1.3 so all the stuff that (should) make the world better is In the update.
Also I think we need to work with a new way to connect personal home's.
I'd think of a main portal to the nether and in the nether personal portals Each connected to a different place.
This should Prevent that people build to much near spawn.
Ps. This is all vanilla

We get it, everyone wants to wait until 1.3. Does anyone have some interesting counter arguments as to why we shouldn't wait, as I think everyone obviously wants an update.

yet again the inevitable update brings up another debate about reseting the server

Hawk, the only counter-argument to waiting I can think of is that if a world reset within the next few weeks is inevitable, then all motivation to build new projects is lost due to losing them soon anyway.

I don't feel like doing anything in Minecraft... then you guys are like "1.3 Reset". Now I REALLY don't feel like doing anything.

Well, I think a reset would get me back into playing. However, we should
1. Wait for 1.3 - LARGE BIOMES LASIKSFLSGO
2. Send all members an email notifying us of the day of the reset, and
3. If possible, have the current map uploaded for us to download.

Simple solution: Go build something you know will last. With the local servers coming out, it also solves the main issue I had with single player: Being able to show off your world.
Funny, now you seem to be like how I was. But now I found a few ways around my dislike of losing all of my work. One is single player.
The path I think I will take is MCEdit. Lets me vent out all of my insane ideas into "reality" that I have been building up a stash of while bored in school, without having to worry about resets or mining.
Up to you.
Actually, got another idea for the server. Maybe have both maps up for a little while until the new world grows too big to run both? Gives people a bit of time to transition.

Here's my new map prediction.
Day 1. Everyone is super optimistic about helping out spawn,
Week 3- Spawn is ghost town. People build cities further out. Also some far away hermits build crazy redstone stuff. The nether is starting to look good,
Month 3. The starting cities have been abandoned or have 1-2 people in them. More cities start in the rise,
Month 3, Week 2. A grief hits one of the old cities. Nobody notices for a while, as nobody lives there.
Month 4. We see lots of solo builds which look good. By now there's been debate over a new map. The nether has been long fully functioning. There's some new cities and most people are building together.
Month 5. 1.5 comes out. Woah, super pistons. Or something.
Month 6. We end up kind of here again. Debating for a 1.6 map reset.
Day 1.- Everyone is super optimistic about helping out spawn...
Completely blind prediction. Also I haven't said it but yeah, I'm in favour of 1.3 map reset.
(Extra. I'm guessing it's 40 minutes until this post is Critisised)

NO
NONONONONONONONONONONO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
NO.
I'm halfway through building a goddamn batcave and I hate large biomes. Transportation is my least favorite activity, and huge biomes would make it a million times worse. There's a reason I build all my bases at most 200 blocks away from taiga, ocean, extreme hills, swamp, forest, and desert biomes. I want all the biomes to be easily accessible. I don't want to spawn in a 2000x2000 freaking desert.
Wait for 1.3, let people play huge biomes in their singleplayer world, wait for all the hype to go down, because I guarantee you won't like it. NO WORLD RESET.

|
PLUS, large biomes would all but worsen the file size problems SDM is having. To find all the biomes, the world would be COLOSSALLY bigger than it is now, especially to find a MUSHROOM BIOME.

If you guys want a restart, put all your crap in a chest and venture out a couple thousand blocks. Don't wipe all the stuff I just spent an eternity building.
Plus, I'm not even close to finishing Neverland. You don't have an idea for a project? Help me build the amusement park.
