Wonder how many people would leave if the server became Tekkit. Kura, I like to build stuff like you, maybe not quite as big, but yes, I do like to build farms. I'm going to work on a cow farm later tonight. A cow farm big enough for me to infinitely breed sets of cows. I'll stick a breadmaker right next to it for compactness too big_smile.

I would leave the server if it became Tekkit. I am still building farms in my home right now and will build new farms once the server resets. Through experience, we make progress.

You seemed to have missed the "suppose"
It was a hypothetical situation. I was noting the flaws of vanilla to show why such a controversy over reset exists.

We make progress, sure. It is just the same progress every time.
Just count my vote out, either way. I currently trying out worldpainter.

Here's an idea:
You know how someone ventured forever and left the server?
Use MCedit to delete all those chunks. Problem solved.
You don't need to delete the entire world. You could even edit the world to be a large biome world and delete the uninhabited parts.

Kura, your argument makes a lot of logical sense. It's just rather unfortunate. I think we could come to some sort of compromise without deleting the entire world. The beautiful thing about minecraft is that it's an individual experience. If you want to start over, dump your crap in lava and start over. If you want to build, build. If you want to explore, explore, just not too far. All of this can be done without a complete reset.

Eventually there will be a new biome that everyone's going to love for a week, and we'll probably have to do a reset then, too.

BTW, Depue is going to shit bricks. Maybe punch a few holes in his wall.

If there's a server reset, I'm hoarding all the resources.

Agreed. What I would like most is a dual world server. One that resets, one that doesn't. Lets us enjoy the entire community while being fine with our stuff.
But yeah. With all this recent insanity, I think I will go drift off for a while.
Shame, and I was looking foreward to playing again now that AP tests are done.

Moving stuff around is hard. SDM could get worldedit, but MCEdit requires server downtime.

Maybe my other idea of periodic reset towns. Just a large chunk of the map dedicated to resets. Or alternatively, set areas of the map not dedicated to resets. Maybe you can go around and use MCEdit to regenerate most of the chunks, rather than flat out resetting. Most of the world gets reset, and people who liked their buildings get to keep them. Problem solved. I won't be interfereing, I live at 4000, 4000. NEther rail might be silly, but I don't mind hermiting.

Its just a dilema between community and preservation. And unfortunately, preservation is winning for me. I hope that can change soon.

Curious decision.
On the one hand, I think they learned from the 1.7 to 1.8 terrain absudities.
On the other, we have no idea what unforseen messups could occur.

Suggestion to help the countless who supported the reset: Dedicated MCEdit cleansing of the world. Get rid of all the abandoned towns, abandoned homes, and rarely traveled areas. Then, for anyone wishing for the new experience again, just set up a new town in the wilderness under the requirement of having a clean inventory when joining.
And to avoid trouble, post on the forums to ensure that an area is truely abandoned.

Loading a 6 Gigabyte world into MCEdit and manipulating the entire boundary is unreasonable.

I'm for a no-reset policy.  There's so much terrain out there to work with if you want a new experience.  Abandoned towns and homes (most of them) add character to the server, I would be against deleting any of them.

Also I'm for a main land boundary.  That's still a lot of space and the ocean can be in the boundaries so there will be plenty of water to build on and islands to explore.

Well i agree with Kaya . There is no point in resetting anytime soon . But the thing is at some point we will eventually maybe have to reset because of changes within the game and maybe general lag caused by the world size . I dont think we would have to reset anytime soon cause of world size since there is minimal lag on the server with a 6GB map XD.  In my opinion the world should last till maybe 1.4 and then have a reset of the map since we would have built so many things till then and the map would be insanely large. Somebody might disagree and its fine that our opinions differ but i want you to keep in mind that there will be a download for the map ( ? ) and starting a new map will make you have new freesh ideas , terrain where you could build and explore.  Srry Teset but i think a reset is inevitable big_smile

I'll probably pop an SSD into the server an add some more ram in the near future. I might even get a co-location for more upload speed.

As long as players aren't ridiculously spread out all the time, a huge map should be a-okay.

I finally had the time to read all of the posts and I'd like to get my view out there:

I have a nice, small home that I created with minimal effort. In fact, the home was not originally built by me but by a player who rage quit. When I first found the home, I made it look less like a crater and more like a home, and then continued to do a little work to it here and there. I have totally rebuilt it one piece at a time, to make it fit my tastes. Since finishing it months ago, I haven't made any major changes. I've probably worked more on other players projects than I have on my own. I come on the server mostly for the interaction with other players. This is the reason I got bored of single player before I was able to throw away my stone tools. I need people to interact with. I am well established with more diamond than I will probably ever need and I tend to be a philanthropist. I like to meet the new players, see what they're like, and if I like them, help them out with some armor, tools, or other resources to get them started. I guess where I'm going with this is, it doesn't matter to me what happens as long as the community is together. If there's a reset, I'll re-establish myself and continue to do what I like to do. If there's not a a reset in the near future, I'm fine with that too. I guess I fall into a third class of people; I'm not a builder, I'm not an adventurer, I'm just a guy who likes to come online and interact with people in this wonderful game in my free time.

Didn't consider the third group, whoops.

The social. There for the people, the interactions, and the fun. Minecraft is a chatroom with some background stuff (Somewhat exaggeration). Share, build together, compete, joke, mess around, meet and greet.

I guess it didn't come to mind because they won't have as much of an impact on the decision to reset. They would prefer whatever option keeps the most people the happiest, to have the best online experience.

You just described me better than I was able to describe myself in my entire previous post. smile
