Side note about difficulty:
Most mob damage increases.
Creeper damage same, but range increases.
No poison on easy, poison on normal and hard.
Zombles de-door on hard.
Edit: And starvation. Left at 5 hearts on easy, 1/2 on medium, and killed by hunger on hard.
Well, it looks like I might have to actually fight. Before, diamond armor + speed potion = what's night time?
Now I might need to actually bring a good sword. Good thing I got so much caving done with under my island.

edit *sigh
...
Back on topic. The biggest reason I like this... and might be the reason it's changed to hard. Is now I can't be lazy afk and punching mobs for xp. Now it'll kill me if I don't keep my hunger satisfied. Keep it hard please.

But my wooden doors! Gah! Now I'm gonna have to use fences or iron or pistons. Also this kills mob farms because the hunger will kill us if we are afk, which means I can't go out and leave it grinding.
Though I haven't been that active so... Yeah -_-. Must get on more.

Also, as a fair warning to all players, hide your valuables and keep them centralized.

Why hide valuables and such?? (Not that i have much to worry about i doubt.) but ya... here come iron doors...

I had wooden doors between my store room and the mine below. This afternoon I was greeted by zombies, spiders, and a creeper inside my store room. That creeper took out three chests and some of the items in them. Good thing my valuable stuff was hidden behind some walls.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you still afk at grinders? To my knowledge you don't spend hunger when your motionless

ya people i have afk mob farms on my single player and i don't die. stop freaking out i am amazed by how big of a deal this is the gameplay difference is minimal in my opinion.

At least try with grammar there.
Yes, you can afk to build up mobs. The problem with that is lag. 200 SMP mobs in a small area, then kill them all off, with 200 sound triggers and corpses, each making XP and dropping items, followed by a screen of XP eating your face.
If you set it to punch maybe twice a second to not trigger block breaking, you can kill off all the mobs quickly, and all the extra drops once your inventory are full would despawn after 5 minutes. Much less lag free.
Maybe you can also write a script to hold right click for 5 seconds every 5 minutes or so, and hold a stack of steak while punching. Tada, last a lot longer. Although then you have to worry about timing.

Punching consumes a lot of hunger bars. The only way I AFK at spawners is by turning on an autoclicker and leaving. Using pots would probably work though. Potions on enderman? That won't work. :3 Plus the Enderman limit is reached quickly anyway. (Something like 120 Enderman) I still think you die more often to things other than direct mob attacks anyway. Like falling, or lava, or void, lol.
Otherwise, you do not consume hunger when not moving at all. Sprint jumps consume a lot of hunger, never knew that. (Sprint Jumps = Jumping while you sprint to increase speed)

Seems like golden apples aren't as awesome as I had thought; and beef is even better than I thought.

We're on hard mode? It's a good thing I installed iron doors then. I pity whoever lacked the foresight.
I wonder what diamond doors would be like?
(Caketons! Let's bake this! Show this petty muffin who is the FLUFFIEST! Kudos if you know what I'm paraphrasing.)

I wish there was a mix between medium and hard, because wood doors are now rendered useless, and i do like starving to death.

Use the block that was quickly outdated by pistons: The Trapdoor
Place one at waist height against the door frame.
Pro: Zombieproof! Also makes 2 with 6 wood
Con: Not skeleproof
Also, you can even place a pressure plate under your TrapdoorDoor, so that it closes after you.
I like that idea. Imma think about how to make it completely mobproof using only wood.
Got the idea from a fence gate over pressure plate, which has the downside of mobs pathfinding through it.
Fence gates over pressure plates are amazing though, even if they are somewhat useless. Open automatically from both sides.

Zombies won't break through open doors.
Place the door so when you open it, it appears like a closed door to the opening.
So technically, it's open, but it blocks the entryway.
Researched that on the wiki.
