Alright. Progress update.

1. Shut off wireless redstone. Redpower's condensed cables are good enough, and won't be as laggy.

2. Got a backup mod. Set it to 2 hours, and store 24.
Looked into localized backups, but hopes are low.
Primative backup of unexplored world was only 5000kb (Because it zips the files). Number suggestions?

3. EE's earlygame stuff like covalence dust isn't that bad. It does, however, have the strongest endgame items, and makes it much easier to reach endgame. My current opinion is trust the server but keep a finger on the disable button. Another issue of EE is that it is very hard to do localized rollbacks.

3.5 Alternately, permissions. Maybe I can grant EE permissions to a limited number of players, and/or a price of say a stack of diamond blocks to unlock EE.

4. Have so far leaned towards trusted whitelist.

5. Issues with stuff like block loggers and localized rollback is that tekkit adds so many ways to interact. I will just hope there will be no greifing, otherwise ban. Plus, I base it off of SDVSS, then if you grief horribly on tekkit, you are a liability and prone to griefing and will likely be banned from SDVSS.

6. Having errors with "Can't Keep up!" That is my current task.

Well if you need any long-distance testing, I am currently doing homework so I will be completely free to help lol.

And I would say let on only the people you would trust with all the crazy stuff anyway. I think it would be cooler if this was a relatively small server with only a few people (by few I mean anywhere from 10-20) whitelisted smile.

Solved my original lag issue of "Can't keep up". Allocating all 2 gigs of ram means none for the computer, meaning lag.

There have only been at most 20 people interested from what I can tell. It will pretty much be a "PM me if you want whitelist. If you are trusted, welcome! If you are new to SDVSS, get more established then I will reconsider"

Might kill forestry. Computercraft's turtles can do all the auto harvesting and block placing, I think.

Testing remaining:
Logging in from a different computer (Currently only tested on same comp the server is on).
Larger map size
Running machinery (Redstone, BC, IC, EE, carts, etc.)
More players (Find good player cap)

Other stuff remaining:
Whitelist
Permissions
Disabling buggy stuff
Waiting for more response on EE opinions
Few more mods, such as chat.
Learn how to use commandbook.

If you want, I can try to log in, you can PM the IP. That way we can test long distance.

More questions:

Choptree mod?
It makes trees act like cacti when chopped down.
Feels a bit too cheap in my taste, but would like some opinion.
Alternately, I can restrict it to more advanced tools like the chainsaw, diamond axe, and the gem axes.
Or just be silly and have it work for only gold axes. That might work.

Currently hunting through all the configs...

I think gold axe is a good idea. Making it usable with just stone makes farming wood a little too easy

I think just allowing it for the chainsaw would be the best idea...or not having it at all tongue.

That was what I had in mind. Gold axes are horrible, except for mining quickly, so I could make them "mine" even faster. There is even an additional var for using extra durability to chop down trees, so it could be even more resource intensive. It would still be very useful, especially for jungle trees.
And, from what I can tell, redpower also included volcanoes and epicly massive trees. I should look into that terrain gen a bit more eventually.

If you are interested in testing out the server, PM me for the IP. Too lazy to build the whitelist for now.

I just logged on and it worked, so logging on from another computer works.

Didn't try anything else though. I need to research what all the mods do...

Website

Awesome . For all those newbies out there (me too ) go watch Duncan's Tekkit lp - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk58R6g7 … ature=plcp
The first 3-4 episodes are sort of show off of the tekkit mod but then it gets tutorialish from scratch tongue

Alright, lazyness time.

Going to upgrade this server this week for more ram. 1.5 doesn't seem to be enough for tekkit.

I am going to leave it open while I work on configurations, networking, RAM, and learning all the commands.
Whitelist will be implemented when everything becomes more stable.
Map will also probably be reset, as I did a stress test by blowing up a box of 5000 TNT.

Until then, the IP is 76.247.186.215
Have fun, don't grief.
Also, if you note any server flaws, can you post them here with time of issue and number of players online? Curious as to what sort of player cap I can run.

Also, server might not be up right now. Just posting this so people have the IP.

Aah, you did add choptree. And for wood axes too, hmm. We should decide soon if new map is imminent, because I already did some stuff. I even made one of Hawk's least favorite wood houses tongue.

Haven't worked on disabling mods at all yet. Working on configurations, networking, etc.

Thinking of disabling forestry. It doesn't add much. Instead, you can just use computercraft and program turtles to plant trees, bonemeal, and harvest the wood, for example.
Going to limit Choptree to just golden axes eventually.
Already disabled wireless redstone, but I need to find where wireless pipes are and disable those too.

There are also some bugs I need to fix, ranging from crashing (something about wooden pipes and EE machines) to exploitable dupe bugs.

So far, performance has seemed ok.
Keep getting random [WARNING] Can't keep up! errors. Will have too look into those.

Just watching the server, Solo just connected and disconnected. Having issues?

Also, I will probably reset the map once everything settles down. Did some mod testing with stuff like nova catalyst, Mercurial eye, 5000 TNT, and pedastals.
And If I disable forestry, I need to regen the world anyway, as forestry adds ores.
Plus, from what it looks like nether ores need balancing. Far too easy to get diamonds in the nether when caving.

Oh I was seeing if anyone was on. And does forestry include apatite?

It includes apatite and its own tin and copper.

Some of my single player testing from before revealed something silly like 4 types of copper, 3 types of tin, and two types of silver.
