I have a ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series accordng to dxdiag/Catalyst... not really sure what that is. I know about some GPUs, but is this part of a series or is it a card? And where can I go up from here?

That is the entire model of your video card.

Do you have a custom rig or a pre-built computer?

Either way, you should be able to utilize any PCIe x16 2.0 video card.

If you are pre-built, however, you might run into an issue with your power supply.

Let me know what the situation is, as you might not be able to push an externally powered GPU.

If your PSU is up to the task, then we've got some fun ahead.

It's able to run almost everything, newer games require minimum settings.
5 hour battery life (2 1/2 when playing games)
Doesn't get too hot to touch easily,
Makes little noise
Fairly quick
Nice Design.
No Numpad and poor arrow keys.
It's a laptop, not a computer...

You are going to be disappointed with the GT 640, even the AMD 7750 blows it away.

Building your own rig is essentially like playing with LEGO blocks as an adult. The toughest part is picking your components and planning the build.

If you were on the west coast, I'd build it for you as long as you covered shipping.

Out of state shipping is going to get narsty.

I can help you build the computer, if you are interested.

I love picking parts.

smile

Let me know your exact requirements - 100% gaming focused, needs a large SSD, et cetera.

The video card is the heart of your build, you want to maximize your gpu expense. Most built computers do the opposite and focus on the processor.

Can you do this for me? I need a $400 machine that will run things like internet, vids, and minecraft decently, and it has to last long. Thanks!
