Bringing the 1.2.5 Nether Hub via MCEdit
Total : 51
Yeah man, I can also rebuild my design for the ceiling if I use a different block.
My vote is to go with a variant of inner's design. I like what he's got there, but I'd like to see it bigger and maybe more of an ellipse as it will a better sense of direction than a circle does. But that's just a nit-picky idea, cause a circle would be just fine.
Size: Around a 24 x 30 ellipse with room for 8 paths leading out of the hub. I wanted to go a little bigger so it didn't feel as cramped while you were inside. Leaving room for creative interior design and comfortable stairs.
Height: 5 blocks (inside the room). The height of a room really adds to the feel. 4 minimum, but I don't feel it adds anything to go to 6. (Green wool represents the floors and ceilings)
Space Between Floors: 5 blocks (or 3 between the ceiling and the next floor). I don't feel we're pressured to keep things to tight vertically and it'll help a lot as people work on their own individual paths as some will have to move up or down in elevation to reach their destination. (Green wool represents the floors and ceilings)
Stairs: Another reason to make the hub a little bigger was to keep the stairs inside and allow room to make them big enough to feel comfortable. I show one idea of having half slabs criss-crossing from each end. Other ideas are to just use stairs, or to have just one staircase per level.
Design: We're probably going to have a few floors, it'd be cool to see each floor with a different design, so we can refer to them as the "snow" or "tree" level. We can discuss different designs for each floor before the project begins. I like the ideas of a grassy/plant/tree level, a snowy/ice level, a jungle temple level and desert levels. Each pathway out can of course be whatever the owner wants it to be. The blocks shown in these images are not my proposed design, but rather used for demonstration purposes only. As I'd like the designs to come from you guys.
Exterior Design: Ideally it'd be nice if this thing looked cool from the outside, but with all the paths coming out of it it'll be hard to make everything look the same, so I'm reverting to let it be whatever it is.
Where to put your path: Thought it was important to say. Be wise when picking your spot, pick one on the level and side closest to your destination.
I am making a test version in nether basement to see what people think, can ghasts spawn in here?
IIRC, ghasts need a 5x5x5 volume of air.
I think the design is great, but can we not use green? The nether is going to look like a christmas biome.
I'll just quote myself

Ignore the blocks i used, that was for demonstration purposes only lol
We have started building a new hub underground, to access it use the community centre portal, once through that follow the stairways opposite it.
we have made most of the first floor but have only made a start on second.
If you want to help just copy the pattern from first floor
So I finished the second floor, and got the floor of the third laid out. Just wanted to give warning, the hub IS under a lava lake, unsure just how big, but be careful when expanding upwards, I have already broken through to lava twice.
