I just thought I'd open a topic to discuss our future server plans.

Is everyone okay with the Vech's map, or would you prefer something else? I figure that it's kind of nice to have some sort of starting point for the temporary map.

For 1.9, should we go for an all new map, or use the original map?

Post up any ideas, suggestions, or comments you have - we could even start a poll.

I wouldn't mind a complete restart. I started treating the original map as a test map, as my entire building complex was stuck in an abandoned location.

I think a complete restart would be the best idea. We've had too many test maps etc. and a brand new, empty space would be like a blank canvas. The idea of a new map will definitely convince some people to join the server as well. We could do with a few more regulars.

I could go for a newbie. Problem Is I wouldn't mind having a 'head start' of some wood and iron hmm?

You have absolutely no idea how many ideas I have thought of which I don't want to bother test in single player. I also, being me, really want to abuse any strange mechanics in the game engine. Also, did you know you can make a proximity detector? And I have memorized how to make a bud switch and an rng. In other words, I might be tempted to start making traps. XD.
And I wouldn't really mind starting with a "booster kit", as I have mentioned on the oringinal forums.

I think what I might do is edit out the chunks for the Vech's SMP map city and have a new 1.9 world generate around the Vech's city. That way we have a safe area and an official city.

For 1.9? NOOOOOO! Its a fresh start or the old map I don't want some gigantic spawn city, thats really dull, It'll be great, surviving the first few days then building a city. Not a giant empty square block spawn..

Agree. I want a flat out new server. No pregen stuff, that just makes it feel empty. If a town has two people in it, I want it to look like two people live in it, not 30.
Also, there is no 1.9. It will be just Minecraft 1.0 (with no beta).
