This is really cool, though I'm guessing it's impossible to do this in survival mode (unless you do this in a stronghold, which is ridiculously hard)?

Block transmuters change the meta-data of a block. Silverfish blocks are an entirely different ID from other blocks, and use meta-data to store what it appears as.

And it is still relatively possible. Pistons. As the video said, you don't actually need that many silverfish. Just more = faster.
You can even have one running while you are pistoning over the next batch.

And relevant enough, his most recent video he mentions something like this. That is kind of what I was referring to.

I don't care about practical applications. I don't care about the work required to set things up.

I am an engineer. That means I am more than willing to spend an excess amount of time to build some huge convulted contraption just to make a relatively simple process easier to do. Think of, say, cars. Or teleporters, or electrical generators based off of walking on the floor, or a melon farm that fills a double chest per harvest, or a mob sorter.

And on the note of mob traps (and excess work to overdo a simple process):

We have got to organize this. New PVP arena.
Not even that hard to build.
