Going to make a lottery in Minecraft where players contribute items (Of the same type or value) and get their name stuck into a lottery. I take their names and either do it very primitively (Pieces of paper with names on it in a bag) or use this site's list randomizer. The first player on the list wins.
http://www.random.org/lists/
First thing I got on google :p
I think it will be just easier for me to give an example (I'm tired atm)
-Jousis puts in 3 diamonds
-Schematics puts in 1 diamond
-Irashi puts in 1 diamond
-Kaya puts in 2 diamonds
-And Gummy puts in 10 diamonds (Lol)
Now we have a 17 diamond jackpot. Gummy's name is put in 10 times, Jousis's name goes in 3 times, Schem gets put in once, Irashi gets put in once, and Kaya gets put in twice. Then we hit the randomize list button. Whoever is on top wins the jackpot.
Fun thing would be for someone to give like 100 diamonds diamonds, then lose it to some guy that gave 1 diamond. Would be hilarious.
Jousis keeps telling me to make an enchantment lottery, but that's not very useful, as enchantments are very hard to value. Is Unbreaking I better or Eff I better? You can't argue about 1 diamond being better than 1 other diamond. And we can't have a chest with all the same enchantments either in it, lol, to many variables in enchantment generation.
Current Item Ideas for Lottery
-Diamonds
-Iron Blocks
-Gold Ingots
-Stack of Food (Not melons... like bread or meat, something that is useful)
-Lapis Blocks (Not very many would participate in this I would bet)
-Dunno, open for suggestions though
-TNT? Lol.
Also, I think there could be a "selling" lottery. What you do is you go to the lottery, sell your item to someone (Such as a Eff III Unb III Diamond Pick) and get 9 diamonds in return for the sale. Those 9 diamonds contribute towards 9 chances in the randomizer for the player that payed them. The diamond pick would go into the lottery.
Wow, that sounds really dumb and confusing now.
The value of items would be dictated by players.
Le' random slight color change.
The person in charge of the lottery could maybe get one small something from the lottery?
(Such as 20 diamonds in the lottery and the guy in charge gets 1 diamond?)
Or SDM could run this completely and just generate us stuff. We wouldn't be able to see the enchantments in the chest that SDM would enchant at level 40-50 randomly. And we'd pay like a diamond block to get 1 entry or something.
Regardless, open to suggestions.

I like the sdm diamond block thing, but also it would cool to have the entry diamond gold or iron. Figure out the exchange rate between the three. Like 1 diamond is worth x iron or x gold. I would rather win iron/gold than diamonds imo lol.

First:
Conversion rates are hard to make different things have different values to different people. Rather, have different lotteries. Iron, gold, lapis, diamond, redstone, TNT, all sorts of random stuff.
As mentioned, enchantments are hard to regulate and value.
Second:
I hate you.
Now I want to redstone this.
And I have already figured out a relatively nice way to do it, just as I typed up this message.
The way I have seen most casinos have a reliable player betting is minecarts. Easily countable, hard to counterfeit. Minecarts are hard to use except for rails, however.
That could even be turned into a 1 player lottery, which would be boring.
A way for variable items is a seperate room for each player, with a water stream past a pressure plate in main control room. It can count how much people put in, then once it figures out who won sends them all off to the winner. Needs a way to make sure people put in good items though.
Maybe just a mono-minecart lottery?
And I think I might have just thought up of a possible stacked RNG for this.
Roulette table style, minecart goes in a circle, then randomly starts slowing down to a stop. You win if the cart stops in front of you. The more you bet, the longer the track is on your side, so the higher odds it stops on your side. Detector might be tricky with so many curved rails, but it makes it much easier for an outside party running it to keep track of everything.
Second and a half:
Or, just roulette style. Cart goes in circle, stops at a spot. Players place bets on blocks. that might win.
Third:
Saw an interesting Idea somewhere about extreme grass growing. Players place bets on which grass block would be last to grow grass. Different shapes possible, and possibly the epic factor of a wandering sheep to eat up grass.

Take that up with Jousis, he was trying to make all sorts of ideas, but Kaya and I will run this regular lottery I made up. (Time for you guys to make a casino. Maybe at it's own independent location near a city? Like south of NN for example)

You're on Kaya!
And you're going down too!

Ah pre 1.8 when we tried, but then it updated before we finished, how sad. Lamps, wool, glow stone, glass, are a go gummy. We aim for NN soon. Lol.

i would bring at least a few diamonds to this would be fun to get a bunch of cool stuff or junk depending on each persons valuation as kura said.
